Runners, walkers, cyclists and skateboarders
are gearing up for this years
Terry Fox Run for cancer.
On Sept. 14, Terrys Team of cancer survivors
will kick off the event
on Sept. 14 with a 10 km
walk/run, which will begin at
Storie Park on Mill Street and
head south along the Oshawa
Creek to Simcoe Street and
back.
Registration for the event
begins at 8 a.m. and will continue
through to 1 p.m. with the
official start of the walk at 10
a.m.
The event includes a barbeque
and silent auction.
Terry Fox embarked on his Marathon of
Hope in 1980 with the sole purpose of raising
money and finding a cure for cancer.Terry would be so happy to know that
his Marathon of Hope has raised over $400
million and is now a worldwide annual
phenomenon, says Heather Stuart, a cancer
survivor and chairperson of the Oshawa
Terry Fox Run.
Terry wanted his run to be
all-inclusive and family oriented, with no
entre fees or medals or prizes
for finishing first, second or
third. Everyone who contributes
a dollar or more to cancer
research is a winner, and
were looking forward to seeing
plenty of Oshawa citizens on
September 14.
Pledge sheets are available
at the Oshawa Centre information
kiosk and at all Oshawa
Public Library branches. Online
pledging is also available.
