Police are on the hunt for a purse-snatching man who targets elderly women.
Between Saturday Jan. 30 and Sunday Feb. 7, a lone man visited a number of grocery stores across the region and stole a number of unattended purses belonging to senior women.
The suspect apparently targets women who are shopping alone and whose purses are accessible without difficulty, police say.
After stealing the purses the suspect takes off on foot fleeing the store.
Police say none of the victims have been injured and in some cases, stolen purses have been found nearby, emptied of valuables like cash.
The man is described as black, between the ages of 18 and 30 with a slender build. In all instances he was wearing dark clothing.
Police have released images of the suspect in the hopes someone will be able to assist police in identifying him.
Anyone with information about this investigation can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1834.
Durham Police are taking this opportunity to remind residents to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings while in public places and to safeguard valuables at all times, they say.
