Income tax return help for low-income seniors
February 17, 2010

Are you a low-income earning senior struggling to file your income tax?
The Oshawa Senior Citizen’s Centre (OSCC) is once again offering income tax clinics for low-earning older adults within the city of Oshawa.
The clinics will provide trained volunteers and will be available starting in March. The clinics are intended to help seniors with straightforward income tax returns and will be offered at the OSCC John Street Branch, Northview Branch, Legends Branch and the Conant Branch.
In addition, the clinics will be held at seven community locations including, Rundle Park Club House, Marion Place Senior Apartments, Sunrise Seniors Apartments, Beatrice Terrace Apartments, Faith Place Senior Apartments, King Charles Apartments and Kingsway Pioneer Home.
The returns will be processed for a small donation of $2, says the OSCC.
“It takes the pressure off seniors to know that they can come to the OSCC to have their taxes done. It is especially helpful for lower income seniors who can’t necessarily pay the large amounts they are charged at tax agencies,” says Joyce Jessup, OSCC member.
To be eligible for the clinics, seniors must have a single income of less than $25,000 and couples must earn less than $35,000 combined.
To participate in the income tax clinic, individuals must be over 55 and possess a 2010 OSCC membership.
Space is limited, says the OSCC. To book your income tax appointment call the OSCC at 905-576-6712.
Once you do so, a trained income tax volunteer will return your call, complete a brief pre-screening with you and set your appointment time.
