Council approach “backward”

Dear Editor:

I am writing in response to Councillor Robert Lutczyk's letter on Dec. 12.

He is "burned up by the hullabaloo" about the outcry of property owners in regards to our high property taxes. His letter is just a reflection of the backward bureaucratic way of thinking our mayor and councillors have these days.

The point is that it doesn't matter if I chose to live in a $400,000 shack in Yorkdale or a $400,000 six-bedroom luxury mansion in Timbuktu, if your property is worth $ 400,000, then that is what it is worth. If I chose to live in Toronto and own a million dollar house, then my property taxes should be in relative proportion to a million dollar property in any other urban area of the province. That is not the case in Oshawa.

Now this week, they announced that they are not happy with the outrageous property taxes we all pay, but now they are increasing our user fees for our ball diamonds and soccer fields. Stay tuned Oshawa, soon you will need a quarter for any city loo.
