With temperatures in the 30s, it’s no wonder residents are trying to stay cool in their pools or at the various parks with splash pads across the city.
And that’s a great thing to see.
But what’s not so great is the people who tend to take advantage of the water supply by using water haphazardly.
Why is it that so many people feel it necessary to hose down their driveway? With the region pushing for water conservation, it doesn’t make sense to push the envelope during a heat wave.
The driveway doesn’t need a drink.
Such is the reason why the region is hoping residents will do their fair share by helping to maintain the water supply through the odd-even day lawn watering system.
This means you should only water on odd calendar days if your home address is an odd number, or, if your home address is even, then water only on even calendar days.
This also means monitoring what does and does not need watering.
While residents can’t be expected to check their calendar endlessly to see if it’s a watering day, they can be expected to at least be aware of just how much water they are using.
This also means automatic sprinklers and other water devices may need to be turned off for the time being.
Water supply isn’t endless and those who use it carelessly may get a rude awakening.
