Oshawa’s Town Crier Bill McKee officially opened the golf tournament thanking all the sponsors and Mayor John Gray for their efforts. The Oshawa Mayor’s Golf Classic raised around $60,000 for the Oshawa Community Health Centre this year.

It has been a long-standing tradition in Oshawa, and this year is no different.
The 8th Annual Oshawa Mayor’s Golf Classic kicked off with a bang as dozens of golf carts made their way onto the fairways at the Oshawa Golf and Curling Club.
And while more than 140 golfers tried to perfect their game under the hot summer sun, they were also raising money for the Oshawa Community Health Centre, which Mayor John Gray says is vital to the community.
“Every year we raise a lot of money for the Oshawa Community Health Centre,” he says.
“It’s very worthwhile.”
Last year the tournament raised around $75,000, but this year that total is down slightly to $60,000, Mayor Gray adds.

“We aren’t going to do as well,” he says, adding the golf tournament for Ajax/Pickering MPP Joe Dickson was also taking place.
But despite this minor setback Mayor Gray says that $60,000 is going towards a very important cause.
The Oshawa Community Health Centre is a non-profit charitable organization that provides health services and programs.
Its mission is to empower residents to improve their physical, emotional and social well-being.
The centre has been in place for more than 28 years.
Mayor Gray says without programs to help the residents of today and the youth of tomorrow, society suffers.
“I think that diminishes their self-worth,” he says. “We want to make sure they are growing up in a healthy environment. If we do that we will have helped society in general.”
There are 40 programs at the centre, all of them are free, a press release states.
