Dear Editor,
I am appalled at the amount of pre-teens and teens under 16 (and even adults) that continue to chose to ride bicycles, which have got more slick and fast, without proper safety helmets.
It is a law enacted by the Mike Haus regime (his first act of legal safety impetus in the mid-90's or so) and one of the few laws or decisions he implemented that I whole-heartedly agree with.
Yet the police continue to ignore children under 16 that ride by them with no "brain bucket" of any kind on their head. For all the supposed safety blitz our police engage in, this is one area (extremely deficient) that should be enforced always!
How many tragedies from bicycle falls will it take before this law is enforced? I bet many parents need to be called to answer why their kids do not follow the law. It starts with those parents!
I yell at every child I see riding without a helmet. Bicycle and headgear should be a "no-brainer". It's that simple!
