Oshawa has a love affair with the automobile, says Mayor John Gray.
And that love affair becomes exposed during Autofest, an annual classic car show hosted by the Motor City Car Club.
“We build great automobiles here in Oshawa and we’ll continue to do so,” says Mayor Gray.
“What better way to promote that then Autofest?”
Autofest, in its 17th year, takes place this weekend at Lakeview Park. The show will kick-off downtown, on King Street, Friday night just after 5 p.m.
Cars will be on display from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Sunday.
The show will feature more than 1,200 chromed-out, shining rides of all varieties.
“There will be more to see and do at this year’s Autofest,” says Motor City Car Club President Gary Challice.
The show will feature cars from New Brunswick, Texas and Idaho among the local specialties.

“The guys sell their heart and soul to the restoration of their automobile,” adds Mayor Gray of the classic car owner’s dedication.
This weekend’s show is featuring a few different events than in previous years, including the 1st Annual Old Skool Reunion which will feature classic cars without modifications and new paint jobs.
Also new to this year’s show is the 2010 Up-High, Down Low truck competition that will feature modified trucks from 2007 to 2010.
As the second biggest car show in Canada, this year’s Autofest will also serve as the venue for Cruise National selections.
Cars will be chosen to take part in the 2011 Toronto International Autoshow and Oshawa has a finalist of its own.

Motor City Car Club member Dave Repol’s 1935 truck has been chosen as a finalist.
But the weekend isn’t just about cars.

There will be raffles, silent auctions and prize giveaways throughout the event. Kids will also be wowed by Zoo to You.
