Retreat takes aim at healing
Wednesday, June 4, 2008

Durham residents coping with cancer are invited to take part in a weekend retreat aimed at healing. Hearth Place Cancer Support Centre is offering a Skills for Healing Cancer event facilitated by Dr. Rob Rutledge, radiation oncologist at the Nova Sco tia Cancer Centre, and his colleague Tim Walker, Ph.D. The free retreat, which will take place in the comfy environment of Hearth Place in Oshawa, will offer cancer patients and one primary caregiver effective coping strategies, including meditation and relaxation exercises and stress
reduction techniques.

Patients will get a chance to connect with others who are going through the same difficult experience and offer and receive support, which helps to reduce isolation.
Due to limited space availability, a $40 deposit is required and will be returned at the end of the weekend. Participants must also commit to attend the whole weekend.

The retreat runs June 13 from 5:30 to 9 p.m., June 14 from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and June 15 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. To register, call 905 579-4833 or email andrea@hearthplace.org. Hearth Place is located at 86 Colborne St. W.
