The Oshawa Power is ready to fill out the rest of their roster in preparation for the upcoming season, with an upcoming player showcase this weekend to help the team stock up on premier basketball talent.
Oshawa, in its first season with the new National Basketball League of Canada (NBL), will host the showcase this Saturday and Sunday at Durham College and UOIT’s athletic facility from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days. This showcase will give players who attended the NBL Canada combine but were not drafted, as well as other free agents a chance to earn an invite to attend the team’s training camp in October.
There is a $100 fee per player and spectators are welcome.
Those who make the cut will join Oshawa draft picks Morgan Lewis, Kevin Francis and Brian Labranche. The three were selected during the NBL’s inaugural draft on August 21.
Lewis, a 6’4’’ guard from the University of Findlay in Ohio was not only Oshawa’s first overall selection, but the first pick in the league’s history.
Francis, Oshawa’s second selection, is a 6’8’’ forward from Cleveland State. Labranche is the Power’s first Canadian prospect, and is a former player at the University of British Columbia.
The Power will begin their season on October 30 in Quebec City versus the Kebs. They will return home on November 4 to player their first game at the General Motors Centre against the Moncton Miracles.
