Hosting the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association (CCAA) men's basketball national championship has its perks.
The Durham Lords were dispatched in the first round of the OCAA Provincial Championship, but due to their hosting duties, will be among the teams taking part in the hunt for the national championship.
Beginning March 17, the tournament features eight teams from across the country vying for the title of Canada's greatest college basketball team.
Taking part, in their seeded order, will be the top-ranked Vancouver Island University (VIU) Mariners, the Northern Alberta IT Ooks, the Humber College Hawks, the University of Northern British Columbia Northern Timberwolves, the Lethbridge College Kodiaks, the Mount Saint Vincent University (MSVU) Mystics, the Vanier College Cheetahs and the hometown Lords.
Durham begins its tournament on Thursday with an 8 p.m. match-up with the VIU Mariners. The Humber Hawks, triumphant in the OCAA Championship, will play their first game Thursday as well, squaring off against the MSVU Mystics at 3 p.m.
The entirety of the tournament will be played at Durham's Campus Wellness and Recreation Centre, with the championship game Saturday at 8 p.m.
