The Green Party of Canada has announced a
nomination contest to choose the next candidate
for Durham as part of the 41st federal election.
According to a Durham Green Party press
release, a possible election call could happen in
2009 or 2010.“Becoming a candidate and standing up for
what you believe in is an incredible experience
and public service,” says Regional Party
Organizer Rebecca Harrison.“Candidates are the ambassadors of our party
and should be familiar with the policies and principles
of the Green Party of Canada, comfortable
with public speaking, extra attention, able to communicate
succinctly and effectively, and be a
member of the Green Party of Canada.”
Contestants must submit a complete candidate
application and a biography.
Nominations will be accepted from Friday,
Sept. 4 to Friday, Sept. 11.
The nomination meeting will be held
Thursday, Sept. 24 in Port Perry.
The Green Party of Canada is a recognized
federal political party that has candidates in all
308 ridings across the country.
According to a press release, in Durham 6,041
people voted green in the most recent election,
which was up 6.8 per cent compared to the 2006
election results.
The Durham district includes Clarington,
Scugog, Uxbridge and the Mississaugas of
Scugog Island.
