W hite Cliffe celebrates 10 years in Durham
September 23, 2009

White Cliffe Terrace Retirement Residence celebrated its 10th Anniversary on September 1, 2009. It opened with five residents, Suzie Greene, Fred and Audrey Kitchen and Gerald and Jean Peterson. It didn’t take long for White Cliffe Terrace to attract attention and make its mark as a full service retirement residence. As part of the 10th anniversary celebration,
White Cliffe Terrace planted a tree in the garden area. The tree was planted with the help of dignitaries from Diversicare Canada Management who oversee the day to day operations.
Current residents Bill and Vicky Monk, who take great pride in the beautiful garden beds, also helped, along with Lorna Brailsford representing the Residents’ Forum, and White Cliffe Terrace staff and management.

Jean Peterson, one of the first residents, celebrated with many friends and also helped plant the tree. With registered staff on duty in the building 24 hours a day, residents feel safe and secure knowing help is close at hand at all times if they need assistance. Many of the residents who reside here are very independent and enjoy the opportunity to socialize in the coffee lounge or walk to the shopping area close at hand. Olive Anderson who has lived at White Cliffe Terrace for more than two years says, “It’s the companionship. Everyone is really nice. It’s convenient. You are allowed to do exactly what you want.” As life changes occur, White Cliffe Terrace has the ability to put services in place so that residents do not have to move from their current suite.

The full service package includes, personal laundry, assistance with bathing and personal care and spa baths as well as escorts to the clinic across the parking lot. Also, the Secure/Assisted Living area is available for those requiring extra care.“Our beautiful garden and patio area is a surprise to many who visit White Cliffe Terrace,” states Marsha Scott, general manager.“While being located right on Hwy. 2, a large covered patio and garden with walking paths are something many do not expect to find here. We are also adjacent to the community park and subdivision so there is a feeling that you are still very much in a quiet neighbourhood.” When you walk in the front doors there is feeling of home.

Emma Bathe, a long time resident remembers a time when she was returning to White Cliffe Terrace from an outing.“I was going home – I was coming here. This is home,” she says.
Many of the residents comment about the quality of care they receive at White Cliffe Terrace. At the 10th Anniversary celebration, six staff were honoured as having joined the home in the first few months of operation. The residents and their needs are always the staff’s main concern. White Cliffe Terrace is managed by Diversicare Canada Management Service, which is based in Mississauga. Diversicare is proud of their reputation of delivering the highest service standards possible to all customers, be they residents, family, owners or investors.
