Dear Editor,
How impressive to see Colin Carrie declare, “I’m here to listen.” on page 3 of your January 27th edition. The article goes on to describe how Mr. Carrie listened to about twenty people at his pre-budget consultation meeting at the Bobby Orr Lounge.
Mind you, it did seem a little curious that in your January 13 edition, MP Carrie encouraged people to ask only about programs already undertaken by his government. Yes, he does seem somewhat reluctant to discuss anything outside the parameters of what the Conservative Party wants to promote in the way of self-glorification.
In fact, it seems to me that if he was truly here to listen, it would have made much more sense to show up at his own office on January 23, when five times as many people went out of their way to bring to his attention, a matter considerably more urgent.
Of course, we must assume he hadn’t heard about the anti-prorogation demonstration. Otherwise, we would be left to assume he was intentionally avoiding his own constituents, the very people he’s paid to represent.
But of course, parliament would not have been able to address those concerns anyway because MP Carrie’s boss shut it down in hopes embarrassing matters would fizzle out during the absence of the people’s representatives in our house.
If only we had a representative who served us as well as MP Carrie serves his party and fat pension.
