ATM tech forced to hand over keys to machine
March 3, 2010

An ATM repair technician was forced at gunpoint to hand over the keys to a cash-dispensing machine before being pepper-sprayed, police say.
The service technician was working on a bank machine at the TD Bank on Simcoe Street around 11:30 p.m. when he was approached and assaulted by a lone man. The man held a gun to the victim and demanded cash.
The service technician told the suspect he couldn’t open the machines without the keys, which were stored in his company truck. The suspect forced the man out to the parking lot where he retrieved the keys and handed them over to the man, police say.
After handing over the keys the suspect sprayed the victim with pepper-spray before running off.
The victim, who had been pepper-sprayed in the eyes, couldn’t see which direction he ran off in.
The service technician was transported to the local hospital and received medical treatment, police say.
The suspect did not get access to any of the money in the ATM machine.
He is described as black, 5’8’’ with a husky build. He was wearing a black balaclava and has an accent, say police.
Anyone with information about this attempted armed-robbery can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext 5355.
