Train kills young man
September 2, 2009

A passing VIA Rail train tragically killed an Oshawa man, who was just 19-years-old. The man was walking near the mainline CN tracks at H a r w o o d Avenue and Hwy. 401 with two friends around 11 p.m. when he was r e p o r t e d l y struck and killed by a VIA train heading
west. Both men, who are from Ajax, witnessed the incident and escaped unharmed. Police were dispatched along with EMS to the scene where the 19-yearold’s friends, ages 20 and 18 years old, were interviewed.

An officer from the Canadian National Police Service was called in to investigate and the coroner was on scene to pronounce the death of the teen. No one on board the VIA train was
injured, say police. The tracks were closed for the investigation, which took
about three hours. The body of the 19- year-old was removed from the scene with the
assistance of Ajax Fire Services by 2 a.m. The deceased’s name was not released.
