| Train kills young man |

A passing VIA Rail
train tragically killed
an Oshawa man, who
was just 19-years-old.
The man was walking
near the mainline
CN tracks at
H a r w o o d
Avenue and
Hwy. 401 with
two friends
around 11 p.m.
when he was
r e p o r t e d l y
struck and killed by a
VIA train heading
west.
Both men, who are
from Ajax, witnessed
the incident and
escaped unharmed.
Police were dispatched
along with
EMS to the scene
where the 19-yearold’s
friends, ages 20
and 18 years old, were
interviewed.
An officer from the
Canadian National
Police Service was
called in to investigate
and the coroner
was on scene to
pronounce the
death of the
teen.
No one on
board the VIA
train was
injured, say police.
The tracks were
closed for the investigation,
which took
about three hours.
The body of the 19-
year-old was removed
from the scene with the
assistance of Ajax Fire
Services by 2 a.m.
The deceased’s
name was not released. |
